Diesel Mechanic – Maintenance Machine Shop

Position & Reporting Overview:

The experienced diesel mechanic works closely with our maintenance and operation teams to troubleshoot, inspect, and repair heavy log handling and material handling equipment. This position reports to our Maintenance Superintendent and work closely with our Log Yard Operations Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair heavy duty diesel equipment to ensure operational availability
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical problems and then determine and complete all necessary repairs
  • Complete preventive maintenance requirements
  • Make mechanical and hydraulic adjustments and alignments and update maintenance records
  • Service and maintain log yard and in-plant material handling equipment
  • Operate power tools, cutting torches, milling machines, drill presses, hand tools, etc. to grind, file, and adjust machine parts to dimensional specifications
  • Position works from equipment manuals, drawings, blueprints, bills of materials and specifications for service and repair purposes
  • Assemble, fit, level and align machines and equipment and bolt, weld, rivet, and fasten to equipment
  • Rebuild machines and overhaul troublesome components and machining or replacement of purchased parts
  • Operate hoists, cranes, riggings, material handling equipment/trucks to transport and position equipment
  • Use various precise measuring tools to gauge and check work and adjust, as necessary
  • Ensure machinery & equipment is lubricated and fully functional
  • Perform routine housekeeping activities in the department and adhere to all safety procedures and requirements
  • Strive to maintain a safe work environment and injury free workplace

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):

  • Work is performed under minimal supervision and subject to rigid quality requirements and specifications
  • In-depth experience working with diesel technology/engines and heavy agriculture and/or construction equipment
  • Experience with machinery troubleshooting and repairs
  • Farm background and experience desirable
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to solve problems
  • Good reading and math skills with the ability to solve math problems, deal with fractions, and read measuring devices
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and work as a team member in a flexible team environment. Team player
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrated high integrity and work ethic. Dependable and punctual
  • Manages time effectively and adapts quickly to changing priorities
  • Good organizational skills along with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Capable of following written instructions and documented procedures
  • Proven ability to follow safety rules and regulations

Experience:

  • Significant experience working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience working and contributing in a lead role on a team

Other Information:

  • Flexibility to handle schedule adjustments to cover log yard operating hours and projects
  • Work Hours: Monday thru Friday – 8 hour shifts from (7 AM to 3 PM)

Candidates must be willing to complete a background check and pre-placement fitness for duty occupational health physical and drug screen
